“And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.” –Mark 4:24
Today I was supposed to have an interview for another job. I say I was supposed to have one because I didn’t feel right about it in my spirit. All weekend I kept debating with myself on whether or not it was just nerves or the spirit of God trying to tell me something. This morning I finally realized that it was the Holy Spirit telling me to pass up the opportunity because it didn’t align with God’s will for me.
I decided to email my interviewer and let them know I would not be coming for the interview and I wish them the best of luck in finding the right person for the position. After doing that I felt a peace come over me and I knew in that moment that I did the right thing.
In the bible, we see time and time again just how important it is to be obedient to God. We can look in the Old Testament and see how the Israelite’s suffered when they were disobedient and how they had to live with tough consequences for not obeying. But we also see the Israelite’s being blessed and prosperous when they obeyed God.
We can either choose to live with some tough consequences by disobeying God or we can choose to obey God and have Him bless us for being obedient.
Isaiah 1:19 says, “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:”
Joshua 1:8 says, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
2 Corinthians 2:9 says, “For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.”
When we listen to God, our paths will never guide us astray. God only wants to see us prosper, but in order for us to do just that, we have to be willing to listen to Him. If we have obedience in our hearts, then we love the Lord and His ways. We cannot serve God and not be obedient to Him because if we are disobedient, we are going against what God says and wants for us.
Disobedience is not of God and it has no place in a Christian’s life.
Like me, you may be facing a tough decision and not know what to do. The only way to find the answers is by spending time in prayer with God and seeking out His will. When we spend time alone with God, we will discover His voice and learn to listen to it when He speaks to us.
If you are facing a situation today that you just aren’t that sure about, ask God what He wants you to do. He will hear you and He will answer. God will never give you an answer that will hurt you or your family. Trust in His voice and spirit today and let Him guide you to the decision you need to make.
