Healing Our Brokenness

Living in a military town, I see the pain of husbands being unfaithful to their wives. I see the pain that the betrayal causes and how it destroys a marriage. When trust is betrayed, it can be hard to get it back, but it isn’t impossible. It takes time to heal wounds that run deep, but our Savior is able to come in and heal the pain.

Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

The Greek word contrite actually means to be crushed, crippled, or broken. Can you identify with any of those words today? Do you feel crushed by the weight of your pain? Do you feel like you are crippled, unable to walk or move? Or do you feel broken because the one person who was supposed to love and cherish you broke you? If you feel any of these things today, look to the scripture found in Psalm 34:18 and remember that the Lord will draw nigh to you and will help heal you from the brokenness you are feeling.

Psalm 147:3, “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

We can rest in the knowledge that our Lord will heal our broken hearts when they are shattered into a million pieces. He will bind up our wounds of distrust, disgust, and the feelings of betrayal with His strength and love. He will take our growing pains and use that painful growth to help us flourish into stronger women of God.

When our lives go in a direction we never imagined them to, we can look to God to know that He will help lead us into the direction that draws us into Him. Instead of letting our anger and pain push us away from the Lord, we should let those feelings push us into Him full force. The Lord will wrap us in His arms and tend to each of our broken pieces with such delicate care that only He can give us in times like these.

Our shattered hearts don’t have to stay in a million pieces. God can take those pieces and mend them back together with His characteristics. His bandages will be the love He shows us every day. His healing ointment to cleanse our wounds will be His spirit, full of power and strength to keep moving forward. He will take our pain and turn it into a beautiful testimony of strength and survival one day. Let our prayers be the antidote to our broken hearts today.
