Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
This morning has started off like a Monday morning instead of a Wednesday morning. I was running late to work, I slept through my alarms and didn’t get to work out, forgot to pack my lunch early, gas tank was on E, the gas pump didn’t want to work right, there are dishes and laundry that needed to be put away, and my prescription still isn’t fixed by my doctor. I am stressed and so anxious that I feel like I’m suffocating. I feel like I’m going through the motions, unable to just take a step back and breathe.
Life sometimes gets us so distracted that we forget to look to God. We get so caught up in our to-do lists and all the things going wrong that we push God to the back of our minds. We try to take on everything by ourselves, only to find that we’re sinking under the pressure. God never intended for us to do anything on our own. Instead, God wants us to come to Him for everything in our lives, even if what we need is to just breathe and relax for a while.
God wants us to relax in Him. He wants us to come to Him with our to-do lists, our stresses, and our worries and say, “Help me to manage it all, Lord.”
We are told in Psalm 55:22 to cast our burdens upon the Lord. When we give our burdens to God, the scripture tells us that He will sustain us. When we go to the source that gives us life, we will get everything we need to fuel us.
John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
God is the one who brings peace into our lives. Even in the midst of chaos and stress, we can find peace waiting for us to grab hold of. Our lives may be hectic and we may feel overwhelmed, but God is able to bless us with a peace each day to help keep us calm and focused on the things that truly matter. Within the world, we will find stress and worry, but within God we will only find rest and peace.
So today, I am just going to breathe. I may dread having to call the doctor’s office back for a third time and I may feel stressed about all my house work that needs done, but I know I can go to God and He will help me to rest. I want to be well rested in God.
If we are well rested in God, we will be able to face any task that is trying to burden us down and be able to keep our peace. Let us seek for peace today in the midst of our daily chaos.
