Day 18: Keeping God’s Truth Deep Within our Hearts

Luke 2:19-20 says, “But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.” “And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.”

During the Christmas season, we all get extremely busy. We get lost in the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping, Christmas parties, and Christmas dinners. We sometimes get so lost in the busyness that we forget to keep the things we have seen and heard of God near to our hearts. But the Christmas season is all about glorifying God for all that He is and all that He has done for each of us.

Are we like Mary, who kept the truth of God’s word and his sayings within her heart to think on or do we only think on them when we have to? Are we like the shepherds who glorified and praised God for all the wonderful things He has done or do we become too busy to utter a praise to the One who created us?

Keeping God and His goodness deep within our hearts helps us to maintain a spiritual relationship with Him. Without keeping God close, we will lose sight of how wonderful He is.

When God tells us something, whatever it may be, we must always praise Him. When we praise Him, we are submitting to His glory and recognizing what all He has done for us or will do. When we fail to store His truths in our hearts and fail to praise Him, we are failing to recognize just how great our God is.

Mary and the shepherd’s saw God’s glory for what it is and they didn’t hesitate to praise Him. During this Christmas season, we need to take the time to step back and just praise God for what this holiday season means to us. Let us follow the example that Mary and the shepherd’s left for us.
