Day Four: The Lord of Our Righteousness

Jeremiah 33:14-16 says, “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.” “In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.” “In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The Lord our righteousness.”

Growing up, I always wanted to go to Wal-Mart to get a toy with my mom or mamaw. There was just something about walking down the toy aisle as a little girl and seeing all the new and shiny toys on the shelves. Most of the time, I would have my mom or mamaw pinky promise that they would take me to the store if I was good for the day. That simple act of locking pinkies and promising to each other to hold up our end of the deal meant a lot.

We may not be able to make pinky promises with Christ, but we can always count on Him to do what He says He’ll do. Our heavenly Father is not a father that bails on His kids or breaks His promises time and time again. Instead, our heavenly Father is a Father who means what He says and will do exactly what He tells us He is going to do. Whatever words Jesus speaks to us are words that we can always count on.

Within the Lord, we find righteousness and fairness. We can go to the Lord and know that He is always going to bless us with His love and be there to care for us no matter what. When God sent His son to us, He sent us a lifelong companion and friend to have for forever. People may come and go within our lives, but Jesus will never leave us.

Our Lord is our peace, our hope, our comfort, our protector, and our friend all in one. When He speaks, only truth comes out of His mouth. When He comforts us, He always meets us with just what we need. Our Lord is everything we will ever need in this life. His birth is the best gift any of us could ever receive.
